KIN WILD BIRD GALLERY
So far, 270 bird species have been recorded from Kin Town.
In particular, in the Taro-potato cultivation areas and rice paddies in Fukka and Utabaru in Namisato District, there are many migratory birds such as Cinnamon Bittern, Black-crowned Night Heron, Ruddy-breasted Crake, White-breasted Waterhen, etc, and resident cuckoos such as herons, Wild geese and ducks, snipes and plovers. In addition, many migratory birds such as herons, wild geese and ducks, snipes and plovers also migrate to the area.
This makes the area one of the best places in and outside of the prefecture for bird watching.
Mangrove forests can also be seen along the Okukubi River, and mud flats appear around the mangrove forests at low tide.
Migratory birds such as Whimbrel, Far Eastern Curlew, and Terek Sandpiper also fly to this area, making it an important place to replenish their energy for migration, as well as for Taro-potato cultivation and rice paddies.
